This has been a week of so many wonderful things, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the lovely, unexpected surprises.

I'm so grateful to the Canada Council for the Arts for the grant I received. Canada Council makes such a measurable and huge difference in the lives of writers and artists across the country and I was unbelievably grateful earlier this week to discover that I'd received one. Thank you so much. I'm indebted to Lindsay Zier Vogel, who in addition to being an amazing writer is also an amazing arts grant writer, and her help with the whole process was invaluable.

I was sitting in my favourite coffee shop, Le Gourmand, at Queen and Spadina, a place I've been writing for years, (since I was working out the earliest drafts of my very first short story collection, and where I went to plot out parts of all my books, including A Place for People Like Us, the tattoo chapter was written there!) I received the email then, and it felt like an extra bit of magic. Thank you so much again

What a morning (also, if you haven't had the coffee at Le Gourmand, or you're looking for an excellent place to work, would completely recommend)

Secondly, CBC Books included A Place for People Like Us in their list of Fifteen Canadian Books to read for Jewish Heritage Month. What an honour to be included in such amazing company. Some of my favourite wirters and books are on this list, including Cary Fagan, Rebecca Hirsch Garcia, Elise Levine, Judy Batalion and more. Thank you so much, CBC books. You can see the whole wonderful list here:

I was also so happy to be including in Stefinitely Reading's list of Jewish authors for Jewish Heritage Month (and what great company to be in too, from Sidura Ludwig to Ayelet Tsabari and more!) I had such an amazing experience at Stefinitely Reading's Book Club in Toronto. I'm always so grateful to have readers who engage so thoughtfully and in so depth with my writing.

I'm also grateful to Selena Mercuri, author, editor at TNQ, and so much more, for creating a list of her favourite short story collections for short story month, which is also in May, and including Things that Cause Inappropriate Happiness.

I'm honoured to be in such amazing company there too. Thank you so much, Selena, I'm in an awe of all that you accomplish on a daily basis.

(and this is just some of her amazing list, what company to be in, from Canisia Lubrin to Robert McGill to Nina Dunic. I'm excited because Natalie Southworth's collection is next on my TBR pile!)

It's hard to adequately express my gratitude for all these things, but thank you. Thank you so, so much, everyone.
