I was honoured to have the opportunity to review Sadiqa de Meijer’s beautiful and evocative new book, In The Field, published by Palimpsest Press) Every essay is a work of art, with gorgeous turns of phrase and a uniqueness and sensitivity that is hard to articulate. Thank you so much to the wonderful Selena Mercuri at TNQ for the opportunity to share my thoughts on this incredible book.

I also had so much fun making this list of amazing short story writers and novelists for the 49th Shelf.

The 49th Shelf is an amazing website, a collection of Canadian literature that includes interviews, articles by writers where we list our favourite books and so much more. I feel lucky to be able to contribute, thank you to the wonderful Kerry Clare (author of some amazing novels, including Asking For A Friend, which I absolutely devoured, and the upcoming Definitely Thriving which I can’t wait to read)

In the past, I’ve enthused about short fiction, which as you know, I adore but my most recent piece is about short fiction writers who are also novelists. My list includes Zoe Whittall, Ayelet Tsabari, Teri Vlassopoulos, Martha Batiz, Chava Rosenfarb, Nina Dunic, Sydney Hegele, Val Bah, Heather O’Neill and Souvankham Thammavongsa.

(and you if you want to read more Canadian short fiction love, this is but a drop in the bucket of some of the amazing short fiction that Canada produces)

Also thank you so much to the 49th Shelf for including A Place for People Like Us in their fantastic October giveaways. You can enter here until November 1st to win a copy (and there are so many other amazing books, including Katie Welch’s newest book, Ladder to Heaven, which I can’t wait to read, and which you can win too, if you enter:)
